Caramel-Chocolate Apples... Recipe
Ingredients
- Caramel-Chocolate Apples - Pots and Pins
- 1 1/2 lbs. caramel
- 2 oz. bittersweet chocolate, chopped into small pieces
- 2 cups pretzel sticks, crushed**
- 2 tablespoons milk, if needed
- 8 wooden sticks/skewers (I even used chopsticks!)
- 8 tart apples (I used Granny Smith but Jonagold or Honey Crisp would be great, too)

%20%20Dubuque%20just%20seems%20fitting,%20don't%20you%20think?!?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELast%20year%20Lori%20introduced%20me%20to%20her%20Aunt%20Ramona's%20famous%20caramel%20apples%20and%20they%20are%20dang%20good,%20too.%20%20Probably%20the%20best%20caramel%20around%20-%20you%20can%20get%20the%20recipe%20by%20clicking%20here%20-%20and%20I%20would%20have%20made%20Aunt%20Ramona's%20caramel%20but%20I%20was%20short%20on%20time%20-%20hey,%20Witching%20Hour%20is%20just%20around%20the%20corner!%20%20So%20I%20used%20Peter's%20Caramel,%20which%20comes%20in%20a%205%20lb.%20brick%20(in%20Seattle%20you%20can%20purchase%20it%20at%20Home%20Cake%20Decorating).%20%20You%20could%20also%20use%20the%20individually%20wrapped%20caramels,%20they%20would%20be%20just%20fine.%20%20It's%20the%20addition%20of%20bittersweet%20chocolate%20to%20the%20caramel%20and%20the%20salty%20crunch%20of%20pretzels%20that%20really%20send%20this%20traditional%20treat%20to%20a%20new%20level.%20%20Dang%20good%20my%20friends,%205%20dangs%20worth!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPrepare%20apples%20by%20washing,%20drying%20and%20inserting%20a%20wooden%20stick%20into%20the%20center.%20%20Spread%20crushed%20pretzels%20on%20a%20rimmed%20baking%20sheet.%20%20In%20a%20microwave-proof%20bowl,%20melt%20caramel%20at%2050%25%20power%20for%20one%20minute.%20%20Remove%20and%20stir.%20%20Repeat%20as%20necessary%20until%20caramel%20is%20smooth%20and%20easy%20to%20stir.%20%20Stir%20in%20chocolate%20pieces,%20stirring%20until%20well%20blended%20and%20no%20streaks%20are%20visible.%20%20Working%20quickly,%20dip%20an%20apple%20into%20the%20caramel%20mixture,%20twirling%20until%20well%20covered,%20hold%20above%20bowl%20and%20twirl%20a%20bit%20to%20remove%20any%20excess%20and%20then%20set%20down%20on%20top%20of%20crushed%20pretzels,%20pressing%20down%20slightly.%20%20Repeat%20with%20remaining%20apples.%20%20If%20the%20caramel%20mixture%20gets%20too%20thick,%20thin%20with%20a%20bit%20of%20the%20milk,%20starting%20with%201%20tablespoon%20and%20adding%20a%20second%20if%20necessary.%20%20Makes%208%20apples.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E**I%20did%20not%20roll%20the%20entire%20apple%20in%20the%20pretzels%20but%20just%20coated%20the%20bottom,%20if%20you%20want%20to%20coat%20the%20entire%20apple%20crush%20up%20additonal%202%20cups%20of%20pretzels.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
