Ingredients
- 2 large yellow onions
- bowl of ice water
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 beaten egg
- 1 cup AP flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- canola or veggie oil for frying

Buttermilk Batter Fried Onion Rings
Time: 10 minutes prep, 10 minutes cook
Servings: 4-6
Directions
- Slice onions in desired size, place in cold water in the fridge for several hours.
- Dry on paper towels and heat deep fryer to 375 F.
- Batter:
- Sift the dry ingredients together.
- Mix the egg with the buttermilk, add the dry ingredients and barely blend.
- Working in batches, fry the onion rings until golden brown, about 2 1/2 - 3 minutes.
- Sprinkle on a bit more salt and serve.
