Ingredients

  • 3 bunches fresh turnip greens
  • 1 pound bacon ends of salt pork
  • 2 red pepper pods
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 garlic clove; optional
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 quart. water

Directions

  1. Wash green thoroughly, cut away tough stems. Chop greens in small pcs. Cut bacon or possibly salt pork in small pcs. Put water in pot and boil slowly. Add in pepper pods, sugar, salt, and garlic, and minced greens. Cook till tender. Turnips may be peeled and cooked with greens if you like. Serve with corn bread.
