Beef Pastitsio

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Grnd beef
  • 1 med Onion, minced
  • 1 can (15 ounce) Tomato sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Oregano, dry
  • 1/4 tsp Pepper
  • 1 clv garlic, chopped
  • 2 c. Elbow Macaroni, UNCOOKED
  • 1 c. Cheddar cheese, mild, shredded
  • 1 x Egg, beaten
  • 3 Tbsp. Butter or possibly margarine, melted
  • 3 Tbsp. Flour
  • 1 1/2 c. Lowfat milk
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 c. Cheddar cheese, mild, shredded

Beef Pastitsio

Directions

  1. In skillet, brown grnd beef and onion; drain. Stir in tomato sauce, salt, oregano, pepper, and garlic. Cover and simmer for 15 min, Meanwhile cook macaroni, according to package directions, drain and rinse. Combine Macaroni, cheese and egg; set aside. For sauce, heat butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour; cook and stir till smooth and bubbly. Stir in lowfat milk; cook and stir 5 minutes or possibly till smooth and thick. Remove from heat and stir in salt and cheese. Spoon half the macaroni mix into a greased 9X13 pan. Cover with meat mix, top with remaining macaroni. Spread sauce over top. Bake 350, uncovered for 30 minutes, let stand 5 minutes before serving.
