Ingredients

  • 5 cups dry uncooked grits
  • 1 1/4 cups butter
  • 2 cups finely minced onions
  • 2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 3 lbs shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup eggs
  • 2 Tbsp salt

Directions

  1. Cook the grits.
  2. Meanwhile - melt the butter and cook onions until translucent.
  3. Add the garlic and cook a few minutes londer.
  4. After grits are cooked - add onions mixture, salt, cheddar cheese to grits and mix well.
  5. Meanwhile - skisk together milk and eggs.
  6. Slowly add the egg/milk mixture to the grits - mix until well blended.
  7. Pour into greased pan.
  8. Bake for 50-60 minutes at 350 F and check for doneness with a toothpick inserted into the center of the casserole - toothpick should come out clean.
