I was just about to copy this from Grandma Koehler's recipe notebook. Thanks for saving me the effort. I remember this well. Cutting out a section and putting it in a bowl, spooning out some of the sugar/water mix on top, dousing it in fresh milk and eating it while the milk was still cold and the apples were still hot. I gustatory treat that I am looking forward to replicating soon and often. Can you remember the apple she preferred?
    I've cooked/tasted this recipe!

No idea on the preferred Apple's. I always just used whatever I had on hand. Never thought to ask and most old recipes didn't say.

Made it today and it was even better than I remembered it. The perfect taste for a frigid, snowy, winter day.

It is a great recipe. But, please check back before you make it. I just realized some of the instructions are missing. I will give my mom a call and get it straightened out. Thanks!
