Aunt Mae's Chocolate Sheet Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 c. all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 c. water
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 stick butter
  • 3 T cocoa
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 recipe icing (below)
  • 1 box confectioners sugar
  • 1 stick butter
  • 3 T cocoa
  • 6 T lowfat milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 c. minced pecans

Aunt Mae's Chocolate Sheet Cake

Directions

  1. Mix and sift into large bowl sugar, flour, and salt. In saucepan mix water, shortening, butter, and cocoa; bring to boil and pour over flour and sugar mix and let cool. Add in large eggs, buttermilk, soda, and vanilla; mix well and pour into 13 x 9 inch greased and lightly floured pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 min or possibly till tester comes out clean. Ice while cake is still hot. Cool completely.
  2. Mix all ingredients together and pour over cake while cake is still hot.
