Armenian In Law Dessert

Ingredients

  • 6 x Large eggs, separated
  • 1 tsp Baking pwdr
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp. Extra virgin olive oil Flour -sufficient for soft dough Salt - healthy pinch
  • 1/2 c. Vegetable oil
  • 1/2 c. Shortening
  • 2 c. Sugar
  • 1 c. Water
  • 1/2 c. Lemon juice

Armenian In Law Dessert

Directions

  1. Beat egg whites till stiff, then add in yolks and beat well. Add in salt, vanilla and baking pwdr. Add in sufficient flour to make a soft dough. Let stand 1 hour covered.
  2. Divide dough into 2 balls. Roll out each ball as thin as possible. Cut into strips 1-inch wide.
  3. Heat 1/2 c. vegetable oil and 1/2 c. shortening in deep pan. When the oil and shortening is melted and warm, roll the 1-inch strips of dough on a fork and place in the oil and continue curling the strips as you go along.
  4. Cook to a slight brown color and put on paper towels to absorb the oil and drain.
  5. Sprinkle with powdered sugar or possibly make sugar syrup.
  6. SUGAR SYRUP: Boil all ingredients together in a heavy pan for 30 minutes. and cold. Pour over finished dessert of dough curls.
