A Taste of Utica Chocolate Filled Cookies

Not too difficult and certainly worth every effort. This delightful cookie comes in a log and you simply slice as desired. It's a good thing the recipe makes 3 large cookie logs because you'll want a lot of extra.

Ingredients

  • Filling
  • ■2 pkgs (20 oz) chocolate chips
  • ■1 can condensed milk
  • ■1/2 lb chopped walnuts
  • Dough
  • ■3 cups flour
  • ■2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • ■1/2 tsp salt
  • ■1 tsp vanilla
  • ■1/2 cup brown sugar
  • ■2/3 cup unsalted butter
  • ■1/3 cup milk *Or less
  • ■1 egg beaten

Directions

  1. Mix the flour with the baking powder and salt. Set aside.
  2. Preheat the oven to 375 F. Spray a pan with non stick baking spray.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar. Add the egg and continue beating until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and mix well. Stir in the flour mix and a little milk at a time until the dough is rolling consistency. Separate into 3 balls.
  4. Roll out one ball at a time then spread the chocolate filling on top. Fold the dough and place in the prepared pan with seam on the bottom. Brush with egg yolk if you like. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Slice when completely cooled.
  5. Filliing: Melt the chips and stir in the milk and nuts. Keep warm so you can spread it easily over the dough.
