A Poem to share, Goals and White Chocolate Chip Scones

Recipe Summary & Steps

A New Leaf

By Kathleen Wheeler

He came to my desk with a quivering lip; the lesson was done.

Have you a new page for me, Teacher, for I have spoiled this one.

I took his old page, soiled and blotted, and gave him a new one all unspotted.

And into his sad face I smiled and said, "Do better now, my child."

I came to His Throne with an aching heart; the year was done.

Have you a new one for me, Master, for I have spoiled this one.

He took my old year, soiled and blotted, and gave me a new one all unspotted.

And into my sad heart He smiled and said, "Do better now, my child."

I don't look at each year that has past as spoiled, but I do look at them as a way to learn to do better. I'm thankful for a new year and a chance to do better.

I found this recipe over at A Year From Oak Cottage. If you haven't ever visited Marie your in for a treat! She is the best cook and will leave you drooling! These scones are so tender and buttery, they practically melt in your mouth! I left out the cranberries and macadamia nuts, so if you want the original recipe, go visit Marie.

  • White Chocolate Chip Scones
  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 6 tablespoons butter, chilled
  • 1/4 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup half and half
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • For the Glaze:
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 - 2 1/2 teaspoon hot water

Preheat the oven to 375.

Whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt together in a bowl. Slice the cold butter into the bowl and cut in with a pastry blender until it forms fine crumbs. Stir in the white chocolate chips.

Beat the egg and half and half together. Stir in the vanilla. Stir this into the flour mixture, stirring it in with a fork and then with your hands to form a soft dough, just until blended. Roll on a lightly floured surface into a ball and then flatten and pat it with your hands to form a 10 inch or so circle. Cut into 8 triangular scones. Place on the baking sheet and bake for 15 to 20 minutes until firm and the bottoms are lightly browned. Coat with the glaze if desired.

For Glaze

To make the glaze, whisk the ingredients together until smooth. Drizzle over top of the warm scones.
