Ingredients
- 6 whole medium onions, peeled
- 1 tbsp butter
- 150 g mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tbsp bread crumbs
- 1 tbsp melted butter
- 2 tbsp thick cream
- 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper
- 1 1/4 cup white sauce

Stuffed onions
Time: 30 minutes prep, 40 minutes cook
Servings: 6
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 200*c/380*F
- Insert the onions in a saucepan with boiling water, cook 20 minutes
- Drain
- Carefully remove the centres to create onion shells
- Finely chop the centres
- Saute the mushrooms and chopped onion in the butter
- Mix the bread crumbs with the melted butter, keep aside
- In a deep bowl, lightly combine the sauted onion mixture,
- white sauce, cream,salt and pepper and half the cheese
- Fill the onion shells and place in a greased ovenproof dish
- Combine the crumbs and the remaining cheese and sprinkle over the onions
- Bake in the oven for approximately 20 minutes
