%20I%20am%20most%20interested%20in%20creating%20and%20sharing%20recipes%20that%20can%20be%20made%20again%20and%20again.%20However,%20the%20process%20often%20starts%20with%20a%20recipe%20I%20saw%20somewhere%20else.%20A%20recipe%20like%20these%20Strawberry%20Shortcake%20Cookies.%20When%20I%20see%20a%20recipe%20that%20appeals%20to%20me%20(and%20by%20that%20I%20mean%20one%20that%20I%20want%20to%20steal)%20I%20often%20start%20out%20by%20making%20it%20(nearly)%20as%20written.%20I%20occasionally%20put%20something%20on%20the%20blog%20at%20this%20stage.%20Though%20I%20sometimes%20just%20take%20notes%20and%20put%20the%20whole%20idea%20aside%20until%20I%20come%20across%20another%20version,%20or%20I%20think%20of%20a%20way%20to%20make%20it%20more%20my%20own.%20I%20consider%20this%20a%20starting%20place%20for%20most%20posts.%20Let%E2%80%99s%20face%20it,%20there%20aren%E2%80%99t%20too%20many%20new%20things%20under%20our%20kitchen%20exhaust%20fans.%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20mind%20learning%20from%20others,%20and%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20mind%20waiting%20to%20reconfigure%20or%20percolate%20most%20things%20before%20I%20know%20what%E2%80%99s%20right%20for%20me%20or%20this%20blog.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20knew%20there%20was%20something%20about%20these%20Strawberry%20Shortcake%20Cookies%20that%20appealed%20to%20me.%20I%20came%20across%20them%20in%202009.%20I%20let%20them%20percolate%20all%20this%20time%20because%20I%E2%80%99ll%20admit,%20on%20the%20first%20try%20I%20found%20them%20a%20bit%20finicky%20in%20the%20making.%20So%20I%20tucked%20the%20idea%20and%20my%20notes%20aside%20for%20all%20these%20years.%20I%20recently%20pulled%20them%20out%20again%20and%20gave%20the%20recipe%20the%20once%20over.%20Martha%20called%20for%20an%20extra%20tablespoon%20of%20sugar%20in%20her%20version.%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20see%20the%20point.%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20like%20strawberry%20shortcake%20that%20is%20too%20sweet.%20I%20knew%20I%20wouldn%E2%80%99t%20like%20Strawberry%20Shortcake%20Cookies%20that%20were%20too%20sweet.%20So%20I%20changed%20that%E2%80%A6%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20the%20sugar%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20the%20finicky%20part%20of%20this%20recipe%E2%80%93%20it%E2%80%99s%20not%20why%20I%20put%20the%20notes%20away%20for%20so%20long.%20You%20see,%20I%20found%20that%20the%20sweet%20juice%20from%20the%20strawberries%20tended%20to%20leach%20out%20during%20baking,%20causing%20the%20cookies%20to%20stick%20to%20the%20parchment.%20It%20also%20made%20the%20bottoms%20burn%20black.%20So%20in%20my%202013%20version%20I%20alleviated%20that%20problem%20somewhat%20when%20I%20lowered%20the%20cooking%20temperature%20from%20375%20F.%20to%20350%20F.%20Still%20I%20had%20to%20watch%20the%20cookies%20very%20closely%20to%20find%20the%20balance%20between%20cooked%20through%20but%20without%20a%20black%20bottom.%20Finally%20(I%20know%20it%20sounds%20like%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20like%20these%20cookies%E2%80%93%20but%20I%20swear%20I%20did),%20Martha%E2%80%99s%20not%20kidding%20when%20she%20says%20to%20eat%20these%20cookies%20within%2024%20hours.%20I%20would%20say%20you%20should%20eat%20them%20within%204%20or%205%20hours.%20They%20get%20a%20bit%20too%20moist%20if%20allowed%20to%20sit%20too%20long%20in%20my%20opinion.%20Eating%20three%20dozen%20cookies%20in%204%20or%205%20hours%20sounds%20a%20bit%20indulgent.%20But%20take%20these%20to%20a%20big%20potluck%20and%20I%20bet%20they%20all%20get%20scarfed%20down%20well%20before%20their%20texture%20changes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStrawberry%20Shortcake%20Cookies%20Redux%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20think%20when%20I%20make%20these%20cookies%20again%20(and%20I%20will%20make%20these%20cookies%20again).%20I%E2%80%99ll%20change%20the%20fruit%20to%20whole%20wild%20blueberries%20(you%20know%20the%20teeny%20tiny%20%E2%80%9Clowbush%E2%80%9D%20ones)%20and%20I%20won%E2%80%99t%20macerate%20them%20in%20lemon%20and%20sugar,%20but%20I%E2%80%99ll%20probably%20toss%20them%20in%20a%20scant%20teaspoon%20of%20vanilla%20and%20I%E2%80%99m%20sure%20I%E2%80%99ll%20change%20the%20%E2%80%9Cwet%E2%80%9D%20cream%20to%20a%20drier%20%E2%80%9Csour%20cream%E2%80%9D.%20In%20that%20case%20I%20may%20need%20to%20add%20back%20the%20tablespoon%20of%20sugar%20I%20removed%20from%20the%20batter%20of%20the%20original%20strawberry%20version.%20But%20that%E2%80%99s%20a%20question%20for%20another%20day.%20Of%20course%20I%E2%80%99ll%20have%20to%20change%20the%20name%20from%20Strawberry%20Shortcake%20Cookies%20to%20Blueberry%20Shortcake%20Cookies.%20I%20wonder%20if%20that%E2%80%99s%20a%20big%20enough%20change%20to%20call%20these%20cookies%20mine?%20Hmmm.%20Stay%20tuned.%20GREG%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20350%20degrees.%20In%20a%20large%20bowl%20combine%20strawberries,%20lemon%20juice,%20and%202%20tablespoons%20granulated%20sugar.%20In%20a%20separate%20large%20bowl,%20whisk%20together%20flour,%20baking%20powder,%20salt,%20and%20remaining%20granulated%20sugar.%20Cut%20in%20the%20butter%20with%20a%20pastry%20cutter,%20or%20rub%20in%20with%20your%20fingers,%20unti
